A new and improved Wi-Fi service couldn’t come soon enough for the University of Wolverhampton, even if it meant an installation right in the middle of term, but when they contacted Glide we knew we could offer what they were looking for, and deliver it quickly and efficiently.

Almost one year later, they’re confident they made the right decision...

Customer need

With their previous network being designed with the expectation that students would be bringing one device to university, it struggled to keep up with the demands of today’s tech-loving students. Wolverhampton acknowledged that a good internet service was crucial not just for academic work, but also for a happy social life at university.

Students were experiencing problems with intermittent Wi-Fi, especially when gaming, which we know is something so many students enjoy on a daily basis. They’d also had feedback from students who were feeling isolated from new friends if they couldn’t consistently connect to social media and Whatsapp.

The solution

Wolverhampton chose a fully managed internet service with Glide. A quick, well-managed installation followed, and we now service 1,663 bedrooms in 46 blocks across 3 sites.

Through our HomeNetwork, students are able to connect multiple devices at once to a seamless, speedy Wi-Fi service. Students can easily get online as soon as arrive and can now connect in communal areas, meaning they aren’t limited to their room or kitchen to use the Wi-Fi.

We decided we needed a specialist, who could do a quick installation and take responsibility for the service, and particularly for the support of the students. The process was very easy from our point of view.
